Lately is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace currently serving Sri Lanka, built around one idea: the right thing should be within reach, right when you need it. Verified suppliers list what they own — gear, event equipment, studio space, clothing, and more — and renters book with real-time availability and transparent pricing.

How much does it cost to list?

New suppliers get their first 3 months free. After that it is a flat LKR 1,990/month subscription for unlimited listings — priced for Sri Lanka, in rupees, so the bill never moves with the exchange rate. There is no commission on rental income — suppliers keep 100% of what they earn. Renters pay only for the rental itself — an advance payment, a percentage of the total set by each shop, confirms the booking and counts toward the price.

How are suppliers verified?

Every supplier must submit NIC (national identity card) details before their shop goes live. Lately reviews and approves each submission. Verified suppliers display a checkmark on their profile. Suppliers can optionally submit business registration documents for a Level 2 verified badge.

Can I message the supplier before I pay?

Yes. Every booking has its own conversation, open from the moment you send a request — so you can ask about condition, accessories, or pickup before you transfer any money. Conversations stay on Lately, which means they're also the record if a booking is ever disputed. Phone numbers and email addresses stay hidden until the supplier confirms your booking.

What if something goes wrong?

Suppliers set their own deposit terms, which are clearly shown on every listing before a renter books. Both parties know exactly what is agreed upfront. If a dispute arises — damage, a no-show, or a disagreement — Lately staff step in to review the situation and help both sides reach a fair resolution.

What is Lately Circles?

Lately Circles is a private social trust graph. It maps real-world trust relationships between users based on who has rented with whom. Suppliers can see how closely a renter is connected to them — Inner Circle (rented directly), Trusted (one degree), or Community (two degrees) — helping them make informed booking decisions.

Can I rent from others and list my own items?

Yes. Lately supports both roles simultaneously. Set your account intent to 'Both' in settings and you can browse and book items from other suppliers while managing your own listings from the same account at no extra cost.

What categories are available?

Lately currently offers four live verticals: Gear (cameras, lenses, lighting, computers), Events (tents, tables, PA systems, décor), Spaces (studios, coworking, offices, event halls — by the hour or day), and Clothing (fashion, formalwear, costumes). Tools and Wheels are coming soon.

What is Lately People?

Lately People puts bookable photographers, videographers, MCs and hosts, makeup artists and more on the same Lately account people already use to rent. It starts with photographers in Kandy. Providers and clients can request early access at lately.cc/people.

How do I become a supplier?

Create a free account, set your intent to 'supplier', and complete NIC-based identity verification. Your shop goes live once Lately approves your verification, and your first 3 months are free — the LKR 1,990/month subscription starts after that. You can list unlimited items from day one.
